The Russian Minister of Agriculture Elena Skrynnik reported that agricultural production had risen by 3.6 % in the first quarter of 2010. She said that this increase was based primarily on growth in pork production (+10%) and poultry meat production (+14%).

On 17 February, Russian Minister of Agriculture Elena Skrynnik announced in a plenary session in the State Duma that more than 220 projects will be implemented in the dairy and beef cattle sector in 2010. Dairy cattle, beef cattle, pig keeping as well as poultry keeping have top priority in terms of state financing in 2010.

In Russia, smallholdings and homesteads are very important when it comes to the supply of products of animal origin. Some 250,000 smallholdings and 15.5 million homesteads account for 48 % of meat production and 56 % of milk and dairy production. Thus, though small in size, these farming structures play a large role in Russia’s animal husbandry sector.

Despite the difficult economic situation, the organisers were able to achieve growth of about 5 per cent compared with the preceding year and registered over 8,000 expert visitors. They rate this as a clear indication of a substantial increase in the need for information, as now in particular Russia’s animal farmers are looking even more strongly for solutions to improve production efficiency on their farms.

AgroFarm has established itself as the platform for Russia's professional animal husbandry sector. From 2009 onwards, awards for products and services particularly aimed at the Russian market will be conferred in the course of the exhibition. The prizes will be awarded for "Best Product - AgroFarm 2009" and for "Best Service - AgroFarm 2009". The awards will be presented at the AgroFarm 2009 opening ceremony on 20 May, 10 am to 11 am.

Registration for Agrofarm going very well
According to the organisers - DLG-Agriservice GmbH, a DLG subsidiary (Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft - German Agricultural Society located in Frankfurt am Main) and Agricultural Sector of AREC (Moscow) – registration for the International Exhibition for Animal Husbandry and Breeding is going very well. More than 140 exhibitors from 13 countries will showcase an extensive range of exhibits for professionals from the dairy, beef, pig, poultry and aquaculture sectors at the VVC grounds (All-Russian Exhibition Centre) from 20 to 22 May. Thus, in spite of the difficult conditions at present due to the global financial crisis, last year’s result looks set to be equalled.

Russia’s livestock farmers currently seeking ways to increase productive efficiency
Within the scope of an AgroFarm Workshop in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, on 2 December 2008, the DLG (Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft - German Agricultural Society) met with experts from agriculture and industry to discuss the development of animal production in Russia. At the heart of the event, which was attended by some 50 companies, associations and organisations from the animal husbandry and breeding sector, were various issues such as the current situation and trade in breeding animals along with management issues and empirical experience of the Russian market

With some 7,700 visitors from large farms located throughout Russia, AgroFarm has once again proved itself to be an excellent platform for the professional animal husbandry sector. This second time around saw a 13 % increase in the number of visitors compared to last year’s première.

APK VVC (Moscow) and the DLG-Agriservice, a subsidiary of DLG (Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft, German Agricultural Society, Frankfurt am Main), organisers of the International Exhibition for Animal Husbandry and Breeding, AgroFarm 2008, have reported a very good outcome with regard to the number of exhibitor registrations. From 24 to 26 April, some 130 exhibitors will be presenting an extensive range of professional dairy, beef and pig production technologies at the VVC grounds (All-Russian Exhibition Centre) in Moscow, which will also be showcasing poultry production and aquaculture, too.
