In Russia, smallholdings and homesteads are very important when it comes to the supply of products of animal origin. Some 250,000 smallholdings and 15.5 million homesteads account for 48 % of meat production and 56 % of milk and dairy production. Thus, though small in size, these farming structures play a large role in Russia’s animal husbandry sector.
In recent years, Russia’s Agricultural Ministry has provided subsidies to foster the development of small agricultural enterprises in rural areas. This includes a programme for promoting smallholder dairy production.
AgroFarm is aware of this fact and, for the first time, has set aside a special area at this year’s event where exhibitors will have the chance to present products and services geared specifically to small farms.
AgroFarm’s focus on small farms does not stop here, but also includes numerous specialist events offering a chance to engage in extensive discussions on issues such as cooperation in marketing and processing, management aspects, labour organisation and new lines of business for smallholders (rabbit and ostrich keeping).
