Huge market potential for animal husbandry and breeding in Russia

Investment confidence continues to grow - in the run-up to AgroFarm Russia 2007, DLG informs about the opportunities and risks of doing business in Russia.

As part of an AgroFarm workshop on 26 February 2007, the DLG (Deutsche Landwirtschaft-Gesellschaft - German Agricultural Society), together with experts from industry and commerce, explained the opportunities and risks associated with doing business in Russia. The event, attended by more than 40 companies, trade associations and organisations from the animal husbandry and breeding sectors, focused particularly on the question of how to gain access to and succeed in the Russian animal husbandry and breeding markets. All the speakers were unanimous in their view that the current situation in Russia could generally be judged as very positive This was because there was considerable pent-up demand in the market both as regards technical equipment and the breeding animals themselves. Investment confidence has grown and the liquidity position of Russian agricultural businesses has improved. This can mainly be put down to the fact the Russian government has declared the strengthening of domestic agricultural production to be a clear political objective.

The experts also stressed that a local presence is required in order to succeed in the Russian market. Maintaining continuous contact with the customer is an essential prerequisite for success in Russian commercial dealings. Advice and service on the spot are regarded as indispensable. The challenges and risks of doing business in Russia were discussed as well as the opportunities. These are mainly to do with the pervasive influence of politics and the way of conducting business. Management skills and knowledge of technological developments are also in need of considerable improvement in many Russian companies.

"AgroFarm 2007", the International Exhibition for Animal husbandry Breeding to be held in Moscow between 19 and 21 June 2007, provides an outstanding platform for presenting future-oriented methods of keeping, feeding, maintaining the health and improving the genetics of all productive animals, particularly cattle, pigs and poultry. The comprehensive exhibition programme is supplemented by a practical technical programme geared towards the requirements of Russian agriculture and with the Russian Ministry of Agriculture's animal production sponsorship programme in mind. Close collaboration between the exhibition organisers and their partners - the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, Rosagroleasing and Rosselchosbank - and with national and international trade associations has brought in key market players from the spheres of agriculture and commerce. This produces excellent opportunities for networking, particularly for exhibitors who are planning to enter the Russian market for the first time. AgroFarm 2007 is aimed at professional livestock farmers, investors, advisers, scientists and researchers, and representatives of retail, insurance and financial companies.
